Speakers of our program:
Dr. Shabbir Alibhai (Geriatrics):
An Assistant Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. He is a staff physician in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at the University Health Network, an affiliate scientist at the Toronto General Research Institute and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and a Research Scientist of the National Cancer Institute of Canada. Dr.Alibhai also engages in community education and public speaking and has presented End of Life Care and Medical Ethics within the Islamic context in past seminars.
Dr.Ahmed Al-Awamer (Palliative Care):
A palliative care physician at the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto, Canada. He is currently completing a Master in Health Science (MHSc) degree in bioethics at the University of Toronto. Dr. Al-Awamer earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia. He did his medical residency training in family and palliative medicine at the University of Toronto. He has delivered conference papers nationally and internationally. His research interest is in end-of-life Islamic ethics and global palliative care.
Dr.Wael Shehab, Imam of Masjid Toronto:
A PhD scholar in Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar University. He was the Shari’ah Consultant of the Shari’ah Dept. of Onislam.net website and is currently the Imam for Masjid Toronto.
Details: All women, men, youth and healthcare professionals are encouraged to attend! This seminar will focus on palliative care in the context of Islam. The panel of speakers consist of Muslim physicians specializing in ‘End of Life Care’ and Dr. Wael Shehab, Imam at Masjid Toronto. A separate question and answer session will follow the seminar for women and men.
